Changes on the Wordperfect Scene

DEMISE OF DOS

I'm sorry to report the demise of WordPerfect Magazine, begun by WordPerfect Corporation in January 1989. It was an important forum for the WordPerfect community (including many articles by yours truly). In recent years, it was published by Ivy International Communications until February when it downsized into two newsletters, WordPerfect 6 Expert for DOS and WordPerfect 5.1 Expert for DOS. June will be the last issue for the newsletters; after that, Ivy will discontinue all its WordPerfect for DOS publications. The company explains that it is no longer profitable to cover the DOS market. Ivy also publishes WordPerfect For Windows Magazine and the WordPerfect Suite Expert newsletter (for Windows) which continue strongly.

LEGAL VERSION

The Corel WordPerfect Suite 7 Legal Edition (for Microsoft Windows 3.1x) is scheduled for July release, so it should be available by the time you read this. (The Windows 95 version is slated for release in the Fall.) This package includes the regular version of WordPerfect 7.0 (augmented with law-specific templates) bundled with Quattro Pro, Paradox, Presentations, and several law office-oriented programs: HotDocs (document assembly), CompareRite (compare and redline document versions), Full Authority (for Tables of Authority), Corel Amicus Attorney (information manager), NexLaw, a dictionary, a legal spell checker, a bunch of fonts and clip art, and an Internet browser (Netscape Navigator). Upgrade price is $190.
